Renewable energy is one of the most emphasized solutions in reducing greenhouse gas as well as one approach toward a more sustainable development in Vietnam.

Vietnam is a country with a long coastal line and tropical monsoon climate, which are favorable conditions for exploiting and producing renewable energy such as: wind power, solar power, or biofuels. In Vietnam Industrial Development Strategy toward 2025, with a vision toward 2035, renewable energy has been recognized as one of the three specially prioritized fields by the Government. Along with the development of renewable energy is the rise in the demand for labor force in this area.

There are about 9 wind power plants across Vietnam with a total capacity of 304 MW, 85 solar power plants with a total capacity of 4459 MW. Furthermore, 120 solar power projects with a total capacity of 8960 MW and over 100 wind power projects with a total capacity of 4700MW being planned are great job opportunities for graduated students from Renewable energy majors.

More specifically, after graduation, students have a number of choices from power plants; companies that specialize in transmission and distribution of electricity; or firms which specialize in counseling, designing, and establishing electric/renewable energy systems such as: Artelia, VNEEC, GreenViet,... Governmental organizations in managing and utilizing renewable energy or Non-governmental organizations related to renewable energy and sustainable development are other chances. Some of the noticeable recommendations are: GreenID, GIZ, the Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research & Technology (ANERT), International Solar Alliance (ISA),... If students are seeking a more academic environment, Universities, Institutions, or Research Centers will be suitable choices, such as: Vietnam Energy Counsel Center (VECC), Institute of Energy & Science (IES), Vielina,...

In Renewable Energy Week 2017 in Vietnam, Professor Nguyen The Mich (PhD) - Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) stated that, according to ASES, renewable energy in Vietnam may create over 700.000 new job opportunities related to this field in the future. According to Chung - Han Wu, Technology Director of Boviet - a company specializing in producing solar cells which has established its headquarter in Bac Giang, the amount of jobs in solar power field accounts for the majority of jobs among different renewable energy field: “To design according to particular characteristics and distribute solar power plants in Vietnam, about 1300 workers are needed for 1GW solar cells pack factory, and about 900 workers for 1GW solar panels factory. In 2020, the annual establishment of the solar power system in Vietnam will reach 850 MW, which means about 15.000 laborers across the country will be working to establish solar power system”.

In the near future, the promised cooperation between T&T Group (Vietnam) and Erex Group (Japan) in biomass electricity is a significant opportunity for the development of renewable energy in Vietnam, leading to the increase in jobs in the renewable energy field as Erex Group is one of the top corporations in Japan in biomass electricity.
