VIETNAM’S ATTITUDE TOWARDS RENEWABLE ENERGY

Over the years, the energy industry has developed strongly in all stages of exploration, exploitation, production, transmission, distribution, and use.

However, with the increasing demand for energy with an average growth rate of 10.5%/year,

While fossil fuel is a fuel that takes hundreds of millions of years to form in different forms such as coal, oil, gas... depending on environmental conditions, the rate of human consumption is too fast. This has put great pressure on ensuring energy demand as well as the energy security of each country. Therefore, the use of renewable energy sources is an inevitable trend, one of the ways to help solve the problem of increasing energy demand today.

Recently, many guidelines and guidelines of the Party, policies, and laws of the State on the application, reception, transfer, and development of technology in the energy field to firmly ensure energy security. quality in the new context has been issued to promote investment in green technology and renewable energy technology.

Decision No. 2068/QD-TTG dated November 25, 2015, of the Prime Minister approving Vietnam's renewable energy development strategy. South to 2030, with a vision to 2050, has set the orientation: "Concentrating resources, exploiting and using the maximum potential of renewable energy in the country with advanced technologies, suitable to actual conditions of each region, bringing high efficiency in terms of economy, society, and environment. Strongly develop the renewable energy technology market, machinery, and equipment manufacturing industry, and provide renewable energy services in the country. Strongly strengthen the potential for research, development, transfer, and application of new forms of renewable energy”.

Widening the legal corridor

At the Vietnam Technology and Energy Forum 2021, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Van Tung said: Legal corridor to promote investment in green technology, development of renewable energy technology relatively complete. The State and Government have issued many strategies, resolutions and mechanisms, and policies to encourage the development of renewable energy in Vietnam.

“The legal corridor to promote investment in green technology and development of renewable energy technology is relatively complete. The State and Government have issued many strategies, resolutions, and policies to encourage the development of renewable energy in Vietnam”

By the end of September 2021, renewable energy (wind power, solar power, biomass power, excluding hydropower) has reached 22.68 billion KWh, accounting for 11.8% of the total electricity production of the whole system. system.

The Ministry of Science and Technology is developing science and technology programs suitable for the period 2021-2030, which are science and technology programs in energy, science, and technology programs in mechanical engineering. automation, programs to improve product quality at enterprises, national industrial innovation programs, programs for Vietnam to adapt to the 4th industrial revolution.

Along with that are programmed to support the development of intellectual property, programs on the development of science and technology markets.

Director of the Department of Electricity and Renewable Energy (Ministry of Industry and Trade) - Hoang Tien Dung said that Power Planning VIII has focused on renewable energy sources in the future such as wind power, offshore wind power, and solar power. …

With the current policies to support the development of renewable energy, it is expected that the total clean electricity capacity including gas power and renewable energy will account for about 75% of the system electricity, contributing about 70% of the total output. power output...

Encouraging Developer

Commenting that Vietnam is in a period of the rapid increase in energy demand in line with economic development, Mr. Ben Backwell, Executive Director of the Global Wind Energy Commission (GWEC) said that the Government of Vietnam has received challenges and demonstrates the right leadership in adopting an energy source transformation towards increasing the share of renewable energy as a way to build a resilient, resilient energy system. reliable at a reasonable cost to the country.

This is pointed out in the 2021 COP26 Conference in Glasgow, Scotland, the United Kingdom when Vietnam commits to net zero emissions by 2050, whereby Vietnam will develop and implement measures, reduce greenhouse gas emissions even more strongly with its resources, along with the cooperation and support of the international community, both in terms of finance and technology transfer.

In general, Vietnam is in the early stages of energy transition from fossil fuels to "clean electricity", clearly besides encouraging policies, energy technology is also a future development direction.

Currently, Vietnam is setting a long-term goal in developing renewable energy, in line with the national energy strategy, and at the same time making a common contribution to the global climate mitigation effort. At the same time, renewable energy and green technology are necessary strategies for Vietnam to make the transition in line with the climate goals to which Vietnam has committed.
